Do you speak Welsh? Well, our ace adventurers sure don't. Our bloggers take on a half-day course to learn the native language of Wales, after which they are tasked to teach their blog readers basic Welsh and garner as many comments as possible. Each comment must contain at least two Welsh words. The blogger with the most comments wins.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ARIES, FROM HONG KONG, FOR EMERGING AS THE WINNER OF THE GREAT WELSH SHOWDOWN!

Croeso i Gaerdydd!
Translation: Welcome to Cardiff!

Upon arriving in Cardiff, our 6 bloggers were brought to attend their first ever Welsh Language lesson as part of Challenge 1. It was quite an experience for the 6 bloggers as none of them had ever spoken a word of Welsh prior to the lesson.

During the lesson, the bloggers were introduced to the basics of Welsh, including greetings, alphabets, numbers and how to buy things. Delyth, the Welsh language teacher, used games and songs to make the lesson an interactive and enjoyable one. One of the highlights of the lesson was learning the pronunciation of a particular Welsh town that is supposed to have the longest name in all of Wales, Europe, and possibly even the whole world: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (Try pronouncing it yourself)

For this challenge, each blogger will be required to create a post and the post must include 5 Welsh words, and you as a reader can help him/her win this challenge by leaving a comment on his/her post. But do take note that only comments that include 2 Welsh words in them will be counted towards the total count of the votes. So go leave some comments now!

Diolch yn fowr lawn! Hwyl! (Translation: Thank you very much! Bye!)

Good luck, everyone! When I was there last fall, I tried to learn some Welsh phrases but the best I could do was Croeso Cymru. I love how Wales has all bilingual signs so you can see what a beautiful language it is — even if it’s hard to pronounce!

    Da iawn chi.

Mae hi’n braf yng Nghaerdydd heddiw.

(Hopefully you’ll understand all that after your half day course, but if not: Well done you. It’s sunny in Cardiff today.

Make sure you go for a pint in the Mochyn Du (pub) or Y Fuwch Goch (bar) to practice your new found Welsh skills before leaving Caerdydd.
